Every post should just start with “I’m a slacker”

It’s true. Would you believe it’s just because I’m hanging with the little man? Ha. Of even I can’t say that with a straight face. Life is just crazy. Lovely, but crazy.
A couple people emailed to ask me about my photo gear. I appreciate all the emails and thought it might be easier to just post it on the blog.
So lets see. I currently:
- Shoot with a Canon 5d. I’m a Canon girl through and through. No amount of Nikon mumbo jumbo will make me switch.
- Important and organize photos with Lightroom 2.0. It’s a LIFESAVER. And I recommend it for anyone that is using iphoto. It lets you make a small change to a large number of photos at once and if I wasn’t so anal retentive, I could probably use it exclusively for editing
- Retouch my photos with Adobe Photoshop CS2. Yes, it’s old. Yes CS4 is better. But I like what I like.
- Love my Canon 50mm 1.4and Canon 28mm 1.8. I reach for these two lenses almost exclusively. I also have a Tamron 17-50mm 2.8 that I’m selling if anyone is looking for an awesome all around zoom lens. It doesn’t fit on my 5d.
- Host my website with BluDomain. I recommend them despite the bad press.
Phew! I think I got it all. Let me know if you guys have any more questions.

Grayson at 8 months
Posted on | September 24, 2009 | No Comments
Ok, what can I say? I’m way off track here. I need to join non-bloggers anonymous. But I PROMISE to get back on track. You have my word.
Here’s what’s going on around our house at 8 months.

Grayson
- is wearing size 3 diapers. Although, he’s got the cutest little butt cheek overflow. Think daisy dukes, but in diapers. Sorry kid, you got your momma’s wide load.
- is eating not only baby purees, but also some finger food. Baby Mum-mums are an all time favorite and Happy Baby Veggie Puffs are pretty much the funniest thing ever because they stick to the palm of his hand.
- Has a particular high-pitched shriek that lets us know when he really is enjoying his food. His favorite at the moment is peaches in his oatmeal. This induces multiple screeches during feeding time.
- Hasn’t really upped his formula intake, but I think it’s because of all the other non-formula food.
- Still enjoys his jumperoo, but is fonder of the Johnny Jumper. I especially enjoy it because it means if he’s in there, I have two hands. To make it even better, I put it up in the kitchen doorway so I can actually cook. (Or bake - but really, what’s the difference since I’m hardly making dinner these days anyway!)
- Has 4 teeth. His two bottom chicklets. And two vampire fangs. Seriously. He got his Upper Lateral Insicors. It’s hilarious. No front teeth in sight.
- Is sleeping through the night still. A few wake-ups here and there, but he usually puts himself back to sleep before we have to go in and get him.
- Is no longer swaddled. LOL, it took us long enough. Now he wears a cute little gownto sleep. And just to make sure we enforce society’s gender identification roles, we got it in a masculine blue.
- Rolls all. over. the. place. all. the. time. I’m talking big barrel rolls. One of the aforementioned rolls landed him on the floor when he started out on the bed. Scary stuff. He, and his giant noggin, are fine.
- He can now sit up unassisted. We have to put him in the sitting position, but he can stay there on his own.
- His favorite toy is a water bottle. Screw $50 plastic toys. He’ll take the 50 Cent version.
- Is super talkative. His newest “words” are ra ra ra ra, and lots of things that sound like gah.
- Is starting to reach for us when he wants to be picked up. Melts.my.heart.
- Is still a delight. *Cue corny music here* I can’t remember life without him. I love coming home to his chunky thighs and smiling face. he makes me happy.

And since you made it through all that - check out the real reason I’ve been sucking the big on on this blog. I started a business. It’s kind of a time suck!

Because in the two weeks since my fat post…. I’ve gained 2 pounds.
Clearly I have this “diet” thing down. And dinner tonight is pizza and beer. Nice.
Thoughts on why I’m still a whale.

Ok, everyone told me that baby weight is slow to come off. I get that. I was prepared to wait, I don’t know, 3-4 months for those pounds to slowly melt away. (And in my mind it was a relatively effortless waiting - since the baby was gone, the weight should come right off, right?)
Um. I’m about to enter month seven. Ask me how much weight I’ve lost since the initial drop a week after Baby G arrived. No really, ask me.
4 pounds. I shit you not.
Now you’re probably thinking, well, she’s a skinny bitch. She probably only had like 10 to lose. But you would be wrong, my friend.
I’ve had 25 pounds of extra baby weight to lose since January and I’ve lost 4 freaking pounds. (And paid $65 to join weightwatchers thankyouverymuch) These 25 gut busting pounds don’t include the extra 5-10 pounds I put on while we were trying to have a baby. Oh, what’s that? Why would I put on weight while I was trying to conceive? Because my naive brain thought this 26 year old body would just bounce right back, so why not indulge every weird craving that MIGHT mean that this cycle would equal baby. I’m craving cheesecake so that MUST mean I’m pregnant. RIIIIGGGHHT.
Yes, I can hear my ass laughing.
So, now. Here I am, at 170 pounds. I thought for SURE by 9 months post partum I’d be back in my size 8’s, weighing a cool 140. But it’s not going to happen considering that’s 2 months from now and I’m popping the buttons on my size 12’s.
So, I’m putting this out there. Blasting my fat ass all over the internet to help motivate me to finally get this weight off. You will all be keeping me accountable. (Plus, hopefully this will help motivate me to post more often!)
My new goal is to be back to “normal” by Grayson’s first birthday. That’s in 5 months. I can do this…
Also, if I know you in real life. Please don’t point and laugh the next time I see you. K thanks.

I swore to myself that I’d be better about logging in and updating Grayson’s stats. If not for entertaining blogging, at least for me to have a reference of his life.
And ya, not so much.
So, anyway, this is going to be a post and run so I don’t forget:
- Grayson now has TWO teeth. Two. And more coming.
Where is my baby going? Wasn’t he just born?
The 6 month stats - only about 2 weeks late

I’m so behind!

At 6 months, Grayson:
- weighs 16 lbs, 8oz
- is 27 1/2 inches (Only an inch and a half away from outgrowing the infant carrier! ACK!)
- wears size 3 diapers
- is still eating about 30 oz per day. But he dropped on of his middle of the day feedings.
- is obsessed with rolling around the house. Dog bed in the corner that you think is out of reach? Grayson’s all over it.
- Loves, loves, loves his Jumperoo. His little legs start pumping and it looks like he’s running in place. Or dancing to the music - a la Elaine from Seinfeld. Hilarity. The yellow piano button is an extra special treat.
- still hates riding in the car. But LOVES watching the cars drive by. Here is the video evidence
- is back to sleeping through the night. (Thankfully!) And is up for the day between 5am and 6. No, that is not a typo. I’m not sure this kid is infact related to his lazy, sleep loving mom.
- cut his first tooth. It’s a jagged little thing on the bottom of his mouth. He’s a big fan of shoving our fingers in there and chomping down. I see trouble on the horizon!
- squeals when we tickle him. He has especially ticklish thighs.
- Has learned how to splash and kick during bath time. We invested in a large floor mat to save our kitchen floors! One would think a whale was beaching itself in our kitchen…
- is an all around delight not only to us, but anyone who gets close enough to see his engaging smile.

My monkey is 6 months old today. Unreal. Impossible. Utter insanity.
6 months ago at this moment I was hooked up to my IV, watching endless Law and Order and waiting for my body to do it’s thing. Today, I’m staring at the sweetest, funniest, and most lovable baby imaginable.
I may be slightly fatter, slightly more frazzled, short on sleep, and running on fumes these days, but I’m exploding with love. Those stretch marks people tell you are “worth it” - well, they totally are. The cute dry clean only clothes now hanging in the back of my closet? I don’t even care them. The extra 20 pounds I’m still toting around? Not my favorite, but they certainly aren’t bringing me down.
I feel so lucky to have this baby. I knew I wanted a child. I begged and pleaded for a baby. But I had no idea how much I was missing a piece of myself until he was born. I am the cliche! My life is better because of him.
Thank you Grayson, for being so lovable.

Happy 5 months little man

Grayson is getting big!
At 5 months:
- Wears size 2-3 diapers
- Is eating about about 30oz a day. Although, that includes 1-2 new night feedings! Ack.
- Is not sleeping like he used to. There is at least one nighttime feeding around 3 am (His 6 month update will include information on “Operation no more night feedings”)
- Has now mastered rolling from his back to his stomach. He apparently thinks rolling from your stomach to your back is for 4 month olds and will no longer do that. Instead, he screams to be rolled back to his back so that he can start the pattern all over again.
- Opens his mouth extra wide so that Lola can get a big kiss. Doggy drool must be an extra tasty snack.
- Has found his feet. He especially likes to pinch his big toes.
- Has also found his Man Bits. Yanking and tugging are common diaper changing activities these days. Daddy is proud.
- Is facinated with our food. You can’t eat anything without Grayson watching your every move
- “flaps” his arms repeatedly when he gets excited. I think he’s trying to take flight.
He’s an absolute joy to be around. I love this little thing

I need some sleep!
Alright ladies. (And gentlemen) I need secrets, tricks, or even bribes that work. My child will not sleep anymore.
Some background:
- G started sleeping through the night at 4 weeks 10-12 hours. Down at 8, up between 6am and 8am (I know, I know. We were damn lucky)
- At 3 months, he started waking up between 5am and 6am (for the day)
- At 4 months, he started waking up around 3am.
- Two weeks ago he started waking up at 11pm, 1am and 3am
- Last week he started waking up at 4:30 for the day…
We’ve tried:
- putting him to sleep earlier
- leaving one arm out of the swaddle
- no swaddle
- overnight diapers
Thoughts, ideas, suggestions?

I’m here, I’m alive

Yes, yes, I know. I suck at this blogging thing. Forgive me. I have a majorly wonderful announcement up my sleeve, but I’m not quite ready to spill it yet. Ya’ll will just have to wait a bit longer…
I am ready to talk about the fact that I’m a huge hippo. Seriously people. I’m large and in charge with this post baby body. It’s not pretty, and it’s not fun for either me, or my not so patient hubby. WTF is up with my back fat? I didn’t carry a baby between my shoulder blades? So why is there now a pinch able new found chub?
I started weightwatchers about a month ago, but I haven’t been commited myself to it yet. So, you are now all holding me accountable. I will loose the baby weight!
Ack. I’m hungry just saying that.
So tell me, what are your favorite low fat meals? Extra points if they take less than 30 minutes to put together!
